OKAÏDI

The “recycled cotton” journey continues with CETI and OKAÏDI!

CETI and OKAÏDI are moving forward with a shared ambition: to create a circular economy loop for cotton, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of this raw material while valorising a local stream of end-of-life garments.

In April 2021, a second series of two recycled cotton T-shirts (girls’ and boys’) for the children’s collection became available in OKAÏDI stores and on the website www.okaidi.fr.

CETI enabled the development and prototyping of a 100% cotton yarn, composed of 60% fibres derived from the recycling of end-of-life cotton garments and 40% virgin cotton fibres from organic farming.

Developed and prototyped by CETI experts on the mechanical recycling and spinning platform, this high value-added 100% cotton material combines recycled and organic fibres. The subsequent transfer to industrial scale was carried out with partner manufacturers.

Promoting Local Production

CETI carried out the industrial fibre opening and carding on its pilot lines. The end-of-life garment feedstock was supplied by TEXAID, a Swiss collector and sorter strongly committed to the circular economy. Spinning and knitting were entrusted to two industrial partners based in the Hauts-de-France region: Textile des Dunes and Manufacture Française du Textile.

CETI experts ensured in-house yarn quality monitoring through its laboratory and open-end spinning facilities. Harmlessness and compliance with REACH regulations were validated by an external laboratory accredited by COFRAC.
